I’ve ALWAYS loved french toast, and since giving up eggs, I’ve been searching for a simple and fast way to replicate it. Well, here it is – this recipe is easy, delicious and it takes ONLY 5 minutes. This recipe is also SO adaptable, so don’t feel constrained by the ingredients or measurements! Experiment, have fun, and let me know what you think below 👇
Easy Peasy FIVE Minute VEGAN FRENCH TOAST Recipe:
WHAT YOU NEED:
– 1/8 – 1/4 of a cup of chickpea flour (Purchase at your local bulk store or online)
– Any dairy free milk (I use Earths Own oat milk)
– 1/4 tsp of Cinnamon
– 1/4 tsp of nutmeg
– a pinch or two of black salt (this makes it kind of eggy)
– maple syrup, berries or other desired toppings
– 2-3 pieces of bread (you can use any bread you choose, but this recipe works well with your regular ol’ grocery store bread or a sliced French loaf)
***This recipe is a single serving for 1 person (2-3 pieces) – double or triple as needed***
PROCESS:
1) Mix dry ingredients together in a bowl
2) Add in milk slowly, whisking, until you get the right consistency – thinner than a batter but thicker than just a standard liquid
3) Before you start prepping your french toast, get out your pan and start heating it on medium heat on your stove top
4) One at a time, place your bread in the bowl and fully saturate with the liquid on both sides. If you are using a thicker or firmer bread, soak for longer. You want it to be fully saturated but not mushy.
5) Now that your pan is hot, add some oil or vegan butter (I use vegan butter) to your pan
6) Transfer each piece of saturated bread to your pan. Let it cook on one side until it looks golden, and then flip. I often do 2 rounds on each side.
7) Serve with maple syrup, butter, berries, or any other favourite french toast toppings!
Don’t forget, this is a super adaptable recipe – experiment and have fun with it!
